HDR is an abbreviation for High Dynamic Range photography.
Most camera sensors can only process so much information in the scene and usually either the brighter or the darker highlights are lost in an image.
HDR photography is a technique where you take a series of exposures of the same scene and later combine them using software programs like Adobe PhotoShop.

The resulting HDR photo is more closer to the way our eyes see a scene and so appears very rich in detail. But, you have to be careful with this technique as you can easily over do some aspects of it and end up with an image that looks unreal.

There are professional tools like the Photomatix Pro available for creating HDR images but this tutorial explains how you can do it with Adobe Photoshop
